Lancet journal features six papers outlining the vast global health benefits of reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions.

Not only will reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions reduce the risks of climate change, but a series of six papers appearing in the Lancet journal associate vast global health benefits with doing so as well.  The papers outline case studies that demonstrate the co-benefits of tackling climate change in four sectors: electricity generation, household energy use, transportation, and food and agriculture. Each study in the series examines the health implications in both high- and low-income countries of actions designed to reduce the release of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Taken collectively, these papers aim to demonstrate the clear and substantive improvements for health that come from choosing appropriate strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, suggesting the potential to not only benefit the environment, but decrease related health effects as well.
